Dogs Watchin' TV

My boss has a saying: "It was like dogs watchin' TV." I'm not quite sure what that means, but he's a west Texas guy and they speak completely different Texan out thar. Yesterday it was CruiserMel watchin' dogs on TV.

Did you catch a glimpse of the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet? Apparently, this was their answer to the ratings game on Super Bowl Sunday.

And it was terrific marketing, if you ask me. Not that I wasn't into gearing up for the big game. No, I was actually looking forward to watching the Bears vs. the Colts. But that was hours away.

I had never heard of Puppy Bowl until I read about it on a couple of blogs Sunday morning. And boy, was I ever glad I did. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to tear myself away from it, until I decided to record it for those days when I need a good giggle.

This was laugh out loud cuteness in all it's furry glory. These little guys (and girls) would sniff, tumble and romp like little cute balls of fluff should. They even had a camera mounted underneath a big water bowl. This got the biggest guffaws from CruiserMel. I thought my dogs were the only ones who like to submerge their paws in water's cool goodness. But noooooooo. One puppy even laid his undercarriage in the bowl, in doggie bidet style. Of course, there was some on-the-field unsportsdog-like behavior and a few had to be benched. There were flags on the field for piddle cleanups. In hindsight, the Puppy Bowl was way more entertaining than the Super Bowl. Commericals, included.

CruiserDog, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with such nonsense. He chose to nap in the sunshine streaming through the window. In the other room.

Mommy's such a weirdo.

Go have a romp, a dip in the waterbowl, have a good piddle and take a nap in the sun. It's a dog's life ya know.

CM - Am I going to have to start looking for a resthome for you? ALREADY? You're scaring me and my half of our brain.

GoLightly - you've never heard of the SUPERBOWL?

kp - I'm getting scared of you. You know the first sign of dementia is repeating one's self.

Golightly - I don't know if they're going to repeat the show - it's 3 hours of puppy play, done football game on telly style. But if you catch it, I'm not kidding, record a few minutes of it for times you need a pick up.

Justin - thanks for stopping by. Yeah, who doesn't love little doggies?

Did they occassionally send out a pit-bull or maybe a rotweiller?

"Look at that Jim, Spike has little Spanky by the neck"

"That's right Matt, and it appears he's going to do a little end-zone shake with him too"

"Oooooohhh... that will leave a mark."

I used to have a boss that used cliches that I didn't understand. One day, I told her that what she had asked me to do was like rearranging deck furniture on the Titanic. She completely understood me. Then, she tried to fire me.

golightly -- you can still see clips of it on animal planet's site - http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/puppybowl/puppybowl.html

Now SGT is thinking like I was. Watching it I kept thinking.. "Puppy Bowl IV - This year it's live!" And some disgruntled intern spikes the water bowl with something psychotic. "Hey Look, on the wall! It's little Fluffy. And there's a little more Fluffy over there, and over there and ...."

Good to hear from you Cruiser. Was out of the loop right after I set up my blog, but now should be back regularly. Learning how to navigate the wonderful world of blogging. Hope to hear from you often. Take care!

I watched the Super Bowl at my friends' house. They own five dogs: two Boston Terriers and three Boxers. The 2 little dogs think they're huge Rottweilers and like to throw their weight around. The 3 big dogs think they're little lapdogs and like to sit on you...all at once.

So even though I missed the official Puppy Bowl, I kind of sort of got to experience *A* puppy bowl.

You know what was really funny at our Puppy Bowl? When Skeeter, the one little dog that thinks he's a big dog, had to be heavily sedated because he became overly anxious by all the people yelling at the television.

After the drugs kicked in, he lay in a daze on the couch, feebly licking his paws to indicate he was still anxious whenever someone screamed at a football player. My friends say Skeeter's overly anxious because he was teased too much as a puppy--this causes him to fear thunderstorms, loud noises, and creates a need to eat his own (and other's) dog poop.

Personally, I think it has something to do with the name "Skeeter." I'd be a little weird too if that was my name.

Sgt - they seemed to group the dogs according to size mostly, but there was one dog who continually sat on the other dogs heads. That usually got a replay.

Mist - Ain't that the way it always is? As soon as you figure them out, they toss ya to the curb. Or try.

Williebee - Just how long did Cato live?

Rockdog - Check out Animalplanet.com

Glaziersgirl - Cool, I will.

Amy - OMG, I've seen dogs like that who lick their feet even when they're asleep. I hate that noise. And their little red paws.
